Barcelona

01/16/2023 - 01/20/2023

1. day

We arrived to Barcelona early in the afternoon, so we just left our luggages in the hotel and have decided to take a walk to Montjuïc from which is a nice panoramatic view of whole Barcelona and its harbour. On the top of the hill, there is the Castle Montjuïc - in the past used as a prison.

From there we walked around the Museu Nacional d´Art de Catalunya, Magical Fontain, Torres Venecianes and Plaça d'Espanya with a bullring Plaza de toros de las Arenas.

Unfortunately during our stay the Magical Fontain was not working because of the government decision about saving water.

2. day

We started our second day in the most iconic place in Barcelona - La Sagrada Familia. It is the unfinished church designed by Antoni Gaudí. You have to see it, it is something that you will not see anywhere. Facinating and somewhere also horrifying details. If you have time, go inside because interior is inspirated by nature, so there are a lot of trees and other details that evocated forest.

From there we walked to the Sant Pau Hospital, which is just few steps from the Sagrada Familia. After that we went to the Parc de la Ciutadella with nice fountain and the Arc de Triomf in the entrance to the park.

After that we went to the Picasso museum in El Born - quarter with narrow streets. After that we took a rest on the Barceloneta beach. It was really windy but the sun was shinning.

We continued to the gothic quarter El Barri Gotic with La Catedral and the mural Kiss of freedom. After that we went through the main street La Rambla with many shops and also with a large public market Mercat de la Boqueria, where we finished our day.

3. day - Monserrat

We decided to take a train from Barcelona and made a trip to Monserrat with the Benedictine Abbey and the Virgin of Monserrat - statue of the Madonna and child.

We also walked to the highest peak Sant Jeroni and the views definitely worth it. On one side, you can see the Monserrat Mountains with Barcelona in the backround. On the other side you have a view of the tops of Pyrenees that in January were covered with snow.

4. day

This day we went in the steps of Gaudí and his architecture. We saw Casa Milá, Casa Batló, Casa Amatler and also the Park Güell with the house of Gaudí.

As a football fans we had to visit stadium Camp Nou.

5. day

Last day before our departure, we visited L`Aquárium and Barcelona Maritime Museum.

Barcelona is the city that you definitely have to visit, because it is different from all the places that we have already visited. And especially thanks to the architect Gaudí, it is so unique.
